Only twice in the Gospels, here in the Gospel of St. Luke we find Jesus weeping over a city and a civilization. In the Gospel of St. John, our Lord weeps over his dear friend, Lazarus. In both incidents the weeping indicates deep sorrow. This sorrow is so pure and holy that we cannot fathom the love of God for a people so stubborn as the elite leaders of the Jews.
