TradCatKnight: Catholics should never call non-Catholics by the name “Christian”As part of its ecumenical efforts, the conciliar church calls non-Catholics by the name “Christian”. For example: But even in spite of [obstacles to unity] it remains true that all who have been justified by faith in baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers by the children of the Catholic Church . . . . Vatican II document, Unitatis Redintegratio, §3 (emphasis added).
However, Catholics should never call heretics and schismatics by the name “Christian” because: It is contrary to the teachings of the Popes, Doctors and Fathers of the Church; It is unreasonable and the same “reasoning” leads to the absurdity of calling every man a “saintly Catholic”; It is contrary to man’s ubiquitous practice, using his natural wits and common sense, e.g., men call someone who steals, a “thief”; and It is contrary to the Catholic Church’s entire history when judging men, (viz., the Church judges in the exterior forum and not according to presumed, invincible ignorance or supposed, hidden good will.
